Did you know on average that out of 100 visitors to a website 98 of them leave without making a purchase and they are never to return again? Let's imagine your site is selling shoes and your conversion rate is average. You use Google to advertise and send customers to your website. The average cost of a single click to your website for the keyword "womens shoes" is £2.50. to send 100 potential customers to your site it will cost you £25.00 in ad fees. For every 100 people only 2 are likely to buy. With an average retail price of £25.00 per pair and 100% markup your profit per sale is £12.50.

So if you make two sales in every 100 visitors that's £25.00 Gross profit. Then you have all your overheads and costs to take out of that £25.00 profit. Which means for every pair of shoes you are selling you are losing money on your store. Now let's say we manage to double your conversion rate from 2-4% Should be easy enough right? Well now for every £25.00 on ads you spend you are making £50.00 in profit. OK so let's take another £12.50 of the profits to pay for your overheads, what will you do with the extra £12.50 that's left over? If you put it back into Google Ads your ad spend will result in another 2 sales (£25.00 equals 4 sales so £12.50 equals two sales) so thats another £25.00 in profits) So with 4% conversion rate for every £1.00 you spend on ads you get £2.00 back.
